Chapter 3: Page 17
News from last week: I’m on a brief vacation this week so I won’t be able to reply to comments. But please feel free to reply to each other! 😉
Also, this is the last day to cast your vote on when would be most convenient for you to catch a Stray Sod live stream when I get back from holiday. Go to this blog post to share your opinion.
VOTE for the comic! (No preview this week.)
She does not look bad to tell you the truth, maybe she could do a different hairstyle. Only in your dreams Love talker Ina would use a rosemary to put the love spell on you. Maybe I am wrong, but to me it seems he wants for Ina to fall in love with him.
The hair is crazy, but it’s not bad either. For someone in the right mind, they would own the irish ‘fro like it was the 70’s all over again.
Laisren is, by nature, a smooth talker. I’m not sure he’s even aware he’s flirting. But if he’s actually interested (ew. There’s quite a difference in… maturity, between those two), he’d rather be sure she’s into him on her own accord and not under a spell.
On a side-note: why oh why does he go in the opposite direction than the one Ms Stoat gave him ? Is he because he doesn’t want to find Jienny ? Or does he know something about the place she’s guided to ? Or is the Stoat a liar ?
As far as I know Ina is a teenager, maybe 16 years old and we dont know about his age since he is not human. You can take my comment about love spell as a half joke. Once I asked the author does she plan for them to be friends or couple, I simply like the comic so it doesnt matter what she would decide to do. But I mudt admit, I like idea of perfect guy who fall in love with girl who is not so perfect and who plus gives him a trouble.
Yup, she’s a teen. and that’s the big problem for me, she has the mind of a teen, while Laisrén is obviously a lot more mature, whatever his age actually is. And from what we saw, the guy is far from perfect: at the very least, he tends to manipulate people to get what he wants. He’s lazy, too. But that trait isn’t really bad in my book 😀
I agree, “disfunctional” couples in fiction are usually fun to follow. So whatever happens between those two, the ride promises to be entertaining.
Well he can tell lies and tales, but I do t believe that Ina would fall for that. As far as we know her reactions for his deeds are not what he expected. Ina is a skeptic, angry ar the whole situation as well at him, doesnt buy his bullshits and plus has a battle with her own inner demons. Dont know about her situation with friends or her love life but she seems to be deeply disapointed.
I am not too hung up on the age difference which bugged me at first. It took me a while to figure myself out (I’m not one to advocated for my daughter at 16 to have a relationship with a 30 year old man. Ick In the real world I’d kick ’em inna stones and some. :/)
However in this story I’m comfortable with the situation because if you look a little bit into irish lore and the times in which love talkers ‘existed’, 14 to 16 would be about the right age for Laisren’s kind to target and seduce females back in yee ole days when children skipped the modern concept of “teens” and went straight into adulthood. The idea of teenagers, of a gap between childhood and adulthood, is a pretty modern mid twentieth century concept. If he were human, and he understood our moral standards, I’d say ick, but he is a fairy, with their own worldviews. Furthermore, he does not seem to be very up with what is happening in modern society, i.e. chapsticks or granola bars, etc. From what I can see, he has been out of the scene a bit when it comes to seducing the ladies….
I look forward to seeing how their relationship developes. Ultimately, this will be a tale about how these two people, from different worlds and ages, grow. Hopefully together? If not, I hope Ina kicks ’em inna stones. 🙂 I reckon she can do it.
I just wanted to say that this is a really well written comic and the art enhances the story. When I read comics online there is sometimes just too much art for arts sake. Yey, I can do all these pages with multiple panels of one dude kicking another because I can use vectors and blah software ad infinitum. Overkill. You are very talented Chelsea. I’m really loving this and will be back every week because you respect the story. Cheers.
Well, again, this is where the idea of a ROMANTIC relationship bugs me: He is an adult, with the mentality of a well-experienced adult and from what we can see, a huge trauma in his baggages. She is a teen, angst included, with very small experience/interest in courtship. The fact he is behind the times doesn’t help his case: he treads in unknown territories while believing he does know the place. It just spells disaster to me, at least currently. They both need significant healing and growth before being in the right mind for a healthy love.
Now, on a FRIENDSHIP level, those two can bring things to each other. They can help each other in this healing and growth process.
And I totally agree that STORYWISE, this ought to be good and what we can already read is excellent.

The author says Ina is 18 years old, which freaks me out because she looks–and acts–more like 13. Laisren does seem fond of Ina, but he’s not the most trustworthy character ever. He’ll need to prove his friendship before I’ll believe it, by which I mean take some action that hurt his own interests to further Ina’s.
She is 18? Surely Ina looks younger and I myself shoukd not be surprised because I myself am 27 years old but I look like 16 or 17.
I dig it, but then again, she’s my kinda gal. Pale irish white skin. The carrot top. Freckles. I find those girls sexy.
If she were a bit older, I’d chase Ina. 😉
Ok, maybe it’s because I’m tired, but I fail to see how she could fall for his tales while not buying his bullshit. Like you said, she’s angry and has self-image issues. For me, it’s the perfect mix to paranoia: in her shoes, I would ask myself “why should I trust this guy ? What does he try to sweet talk me into ? His affection can’t be genuine, so what does he want from me ?”
Even if she found him redeeming qualities, she’d still second-guess everything he’d say.
